How to Conquer Busy Work

Most of us have some busy work issues to deal with.  You know, the type of work that takes you away from the more important job at hand.  The menial tasks you use as an excuse to not complete your projects or meet your goals and the ones that can also keep you away from your successes.
Here are 3 tips to help you Conquer Your Busy Work:

Calendar -
You should have a calendar with monthly as well as daily pages, one that you can easily take with you. It can be digital or the paper kind, which ever fits your life style.  I use the paper format.  I find this type easier to handle.
I can calendar items for months to come as well as whenever needed easily check back on previous entries.
You can also separate your daily blocks into 2 categories, one side for business ventures, projects and job related tasks.
The other column can be used for everyday notes, errands and personal things that need your attention.
The idea is to keep your to do lists together and organized so you can manage your time and life more efficiently.

Note Book - A note book can be as simple as a spiral or a composition book.  The important thing again is to have a place to keep your on going to do list as well as your ideas, steps, plans and deadlines for your projects.  It will save you time and post-its.  Having things written down should keep you on track and more focused making busy work a thing of the past.

Timer - Maybe to some this may sound a little child like but when you are trying to get away from busy work you often need to retrain yourself.  I use a small kitchen timer that I keep on my desk.
If you have a task or project to complete, start by allowing yourself 15 to 30 minutes on the timer.  Make a commitment to yourself and do not get up or change task until the bell rings.  As you feel more comfortable with this time management technique you will be able to increase your productivity.
Remember changes take from 21 to 30 days to become a new habit.

Busy work tasks are sometimes necessary but the whole idea is to free more time to enjoy yourself, life and the people you cherish.

Og Mandino said it best:
"Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no
time to accept a real challenge when it comes along.  This applies to play as well as work.

A day merely survived is no cause for celebration.  You are not here to fritter away your precious hours
when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine.

No more busy work.  No more hiding from success.  Leave time, leave space to grow.
Now!  Now!  Not tomorrow!"
