Practice Detachment

Practice Detachment
This can be a though one to do and it took me years to develop and achieve this practice.
It’s fine or even great to have empathy, compassion and help others in their time of need but not to their detriment or even your own.

Sometimes, helping others allows us to see our better qualities and can help reinforce our own positive feelings.  But, helping others can be tricky; you may at times with no malice, over step your boundaries.

It is probably wiser to offer your help, step back, or simply wait until you are asked to help.
Every person must have the opportunity to grow, change, learn at their own pace and determine their own life fate.

Just be there when needed!

3 Tips to Conquer Busy Work

How to Conquer Busy Work

Most of us have some busy work issues to deal with.  You know, the type of work that takes you away from the more important job at hand.  The menial tasks you use as an excuse to not complete your projects or meet your goals and the ones that can also keep you away from your successes.
Here are 3 tips to help you Conquer Your Busy Work:

Calendar -
You should have a calendar with monthly as well as daily pages, one that you can easily take with you. It can be digital or the paper kind, which ever fits your life style.  I use the paper format.  I find this type easier to handle.
I can calendar items for months to come as well as whenever needed easily check back on previous entries.
You can also separate your daily blocks into 2 categories, one side for business ventures, projects and job related tasks.
The other column can be used for everyday notes, errands and personal things that need your attention.
The idea is to keep your to do lists together and organized so you can manage your time and life more efficiently.

Note Book - A note book can be as simple as a spiral or a composition book.  The important thing again is to have a place to keep your on going to do list as well as your ideas, steps, plans and deadlines for your projects.  It will save you time and post-its.  Having things written down should keep you on track and more focused making busy work a thing of the past.

Timer - Maybe to some this may sound a little child like but when you are trying to get away from busy work you often need to retrain yourself.  I use a small kitchen timer that I keep on my desk.
If you have a task or project to complete, start by allowing yourself 15 to 30 minutes on the timer.  Make a commitment to yourself and do not get up or change task until the bell rings.  As you feel more comfortable with this time management technique you will be able to increase your productivity.
Remember changes take from 21 to 30 days to become a new habit.

Busy work tasks are sometimes necessary but the whole idea is to free more time to enjoy yourself, life and the people you cherish.

Og Mandino said it best:
"Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no
time to accept a real challenge when it comes along.  This applies to play as well as work.

A day merely survived is no cause for celebration.  You are not here to fritter away your precious hours
when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine.

No more busy work.  No more hiding from success.  Leave time, leave space to grow.
Now!  Now!  Not tomorrow!"

Would You?

Would You?

Often in life you start questioning yourself about the challenges that you deal with daily.  Can I? Should I? Would I?

Most of us know and choose which battles we are willing to take on and tackle and some of us even know which challenges are really meant to be left alone.

This Poem by John Ciardi, titled "I Wouldn't" is a whimsical way of dealing with such thoughts.
There's a mouse house in the hall wall
With a small door by the hall floor
Where the cat sits all day,
Sits that way all day
Every day just to say,
"Come out and play"
To the nice mice in the mouse house in the hall wall
With the small door by the hall floor.
And do they come out and play
When the fat cat asks them to?

Well would you?

Stimulate Your Brain

Stimulate Your Brain
Receiving new information and learning new things every day will help stimulate your brain and create the new neural pathways that are needed to feed it.

Never stop challenging your mind and keep it active with brain teasers such as puzzles, visual imagery and by reading thought-provoking materials and books.
Another great way to learn is often to simply listen, because people in general can teach us a lot.

The brain may also be stimulated by discovering new sensations through new experiences, healthy foods, physical exercises and relationships.
Interacting with others provides stimulation, friendships, feelings of love and happiness, as well as many new learning experiences.

A stimulated brain is a happy brain!
